Kansas City Royals To Get Alex Rios Back Saturday
As it turns out, Alex Rios will not be rejoining the Kansas City Royals today as they face off against the Chicago Cubs. Instead, according to Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star, Rios will rejoin the team tomorrow, as the Royals wanted to give him a day of rest before his activation from the disabled list.
The return of Alex Rios could not come at a better time for the Royals. The lineup is in desperate need of a spark, especially after scoring only five runs in the past four games. While the idea of changing around the lineup, or just swapping out the leadoff hitter, hold merit, perhaps the Royals just need something as simple as a productive right fielder back in the lineup to get everything to click.

Rios had been exactly that prior to getting injured. He had started out hot in Spring Training, showing that his power outage last season may have been an injury related aberration. In his seven games before injury, Rios had posted a stellar .321/.345/.464 batting line, hitting a home run and stealing two bases. That is the type of production the Royals could desperately use.
It is likely foolhardy to expect that Rios will immediately return to the form that he displayed prior to his injury, he should be an immediate upgrade over what the Kansas City Royals have had in right since his injury. Jarrod Dyson has been essentially useless this season, and while Paulo Orlando has gained a cult following due to his ability to hit triples, KC3PO is really a fourth outfielder. Rios, just by virtue of his return, should improve the Royals production.
At least one reinforcement is coming for the Kansas City Royals lineup. According to reports, Alex Rios will be back on Saturday, and that return will hopefully help get the offense back on track.
