Kansas City Royals Drop Two Spots in Power Rankings
Last week, the Kansas City Royals had another interesting time of things. They won two of three from the Lowly Twins before heading to Chicago to take on the White Sox. There, they won on Thursday after brawling with the South Siders before losing two on Sunday. It was not a terrible week, but one that could have been a lot better.

Unfortunately, that mediocre week coincided with the Mets and Dodgers getting hot, bumping the Royals down to fifth in the FanSided Power Rankings for Week Four. The Royals did receive a first place vote from the panel of four, which just proves how difficult it may be to get a read on the team. Of course, the pending suspensions and concerns about the back of the rotation did not exactly help the Royals cause either.
However, the Kansas City Royals have an excellent chance to shoot up the rankings this week. Having just taken two of three from the Indians, the Royals have a four game set against the Tigers coming up. If they are able to win that series and seize control of the Central, the Royals should rise from that fifth spot.
In fact, the Royals may well rise up through the ranks away, just by virtue of their current performance. Heading into last night’s action, the Royals had the best run differential in baseball at +40, twelve runs better than the second place Cardinals. Factor in the Royals shutdown bullpen and the amazing performances of Kendrys Morales and Mike Moustakas to start the season, and that total may continue climbing.
Likewise, the Royals have plenty of options in case their struggling players do not break out of their slumps. While Jason Vargas and Jeremy Guthrie have had their issues at the start of the year, both are solid veteran pitchers will a good track record. They should come around soon. If not, Chris Young is waiting in long relief to take over one of those spots in the rotaiton.
Yes, the Kansas City Royals dropped two spots in the power rankings, but this should be a temporary development. If they take care of business against the Tigers this weekend, there may be no looking back.
