7. Final. 2. 76. 7

The KC Royals were hoping for a spark when they traveled to Milwaukee to take on the lowly Brewers. Well, they got exactly that as Chris Young dominated, both with his arm and his bat, in the Royals 7-2 victory.

The Royals jumped out early on potential trade candidate Matt Garza. Alcides Escobar singled, but was thrown out trying to reach second for a double. After Mike Moustakas singled, Lorenzo Cain earned a few more All-Star votes by sending Garza’s 3-1 pitch into the seats in left, giving the Royals a 2-0 lead before Young had even thrown a pitch.

Kansas City added on to that advantage in the fourth. With runners on second and third and one out, Young came through with the bat, delivering a two run single to center to give the Royals a 4-0 lead.

That was more than enough offense for Chris Young. After the Brewers put runners on the corners with two out in the bottom of the third inning, Milwaukee never really threatened to score as Young remained in command. He scattered five hits over seven scoreless innings, striking out three Brewers without a walk.

The Royals continued to add to their lead as the game continued. Young had his second RBI base hit in the sixth, making him the first KC Royals pitcher with three RBI in a game since Steve Busby in 1972. Moustakas homered to lead off the seventh, and Jarrod Dyson capped off the Royals scoring with an RBI triple in the eighth to give the Royals a 7-0 lead.

The Brewers finally got on the board in the bottom of the inning. Milwaukee greeted Kelvin Herrera by putting runners on first and third with no outs before Jonathan Lucroy had an RBI single to put the Brewers on the board. Scooter Gennett homered in the bottom of the ninth, but it was not nearly enough as the Royals swept the Milwaukee portion of the home and home series with a 7-2 victory.

Not only was Young impressive on the mound, but he proved dangerous with the bat as well, going 2-3 with three RBI.

Moustakas and Omar Infante each had three hits in the victory.
