The Kansas City Royals City Connect gear is now live at MLBshop, where you can order everything from hats to socks.

The uniforms are a tribute to Kansas City in its entirety. You’ll easily spot the homage to the fountains in the KC logo and the color change.

Wearing navy is a direct reference to the ties and history with other baseball franchises (the A’s, Monarchs, Blues, Blue Sox and Packers).

Inside the jersey collar is ‘HEY HEY HEY HEY,’ which is a nod to the Royals’ victory song. There’s a neat story behind that, too. In 1964, Kansas City Athletics owner Charlie Finley managed to finesse a KC concert out of The Beatles’ first American tour.

Granted, it came at a steep price. Finley contacted The Beatles’ manager Brian Epstein to ask about a stop in Kansas City. Epstein explained that the tour was full, and that no dates would be added.

For each concert in that first tour, The Beatles were making $25,000. The shows featured 10 songs and lasted about a half hour.

Finley offered $50,000 to Epstein, but it didn’t work. He offered $100,000 to no avail. Finally, he pitched his final offer: $150,000. Unable to turn down that type of cash, the group scheduled a Kansas City show on a rare off-day. It was the only performance by the Fab Four in KC – and it started with a McCartney twist on a Little Richard classic – ‘Kansas City/Hey Hey Hey Hey.’
