Kansas City Royals: Six prospects headed to Arizona Fall League

Arizona Fall League rosters were announced recently, and there are six Kansas City Royals prospects who will take part in the league.

The Kansas City Royals are in a conjoined team along with the Pittsburgh Pirates, the St. Louis Cardinals, the Texas Rangers, and the Toronto Blue Jays. There were six players from the Kansas City Royals named to the Surprise Saguaros for the 2018 Fall League.

Scott Blewett

Scott Blewett is a 22 year old drafted in the second round of the 2014 draft by the Royals. The right handed starting pitcher spent the 2018 season with the Northwest Arkansas Naturals.

On the season, his ERA sat at 4.89 through 141.2 innings of work. Those spanned over 25 appearances, 24 of those in a starting role. In his career, Blewett has pitched four complete games and has yielded an ERA of 4.56.

Grant Gavin

Right-handed reliever Grant Gavin spent his 2018 season first with the Wilmington Blue Rocks, and then with the Northwest Arkansas Naturals. On the season as a whole, his ERA sits at 3.10 through 32 total games and 52.1 innings.

With Northwest Arkansas, he has pitched in 19 games for a total of 29.2 innings, with an ERA of 3.03. Drafted in the 29th round of the 2016 draft, Gavin has fared well so far in his first three seasons.

Walker Sheller

Walker Sheller also spent time with both the Wilmington Blue Rocks and the Northwest Arkansas Naturals. The 23 year old was chosen by the Kansas City Royals in the ninth round of the 2016 MLB Draft.

In total for the 2018 season, Sheller has yielded a 3.20 ERA through 39 relief appearances spanning 56.1 innings. Of those, 50 innings have come with the Naturals, where he yielded an ERA of 3.42.

On his career, Sheller’s ERA sits at 3.15 in a total of 91 appearances.

Meibrys Viloria

Catching prospect Meibrys Viloria was also named to the squad. The 21 year old out of Colombia slashed .260/.342/.360 through 100 games with the Wilmington Blue Rocks. He knocked in 44 RBIs on the season.

His career slash is .283/.355/.409.

Nick Heath

Another position player named to the Surprise Saguaros is Nick Heath of the Northwest Arkansas Naturals. The prospective center fielder is 24, and he was drafted in the 16th round of the 2016 MLB Draft. On the season, he played with both Wilmington and Northwest Arkansas.

In total, he slashed .282/.386/.369 through 86 total games. For his career, of which he spent time with Lexington and in the rookie leagues as well, his slash sits at .276/.353/.352.

Khalil Lee

Perhaps one of the most exciting prospects within Kansas City’s system is Khalil Lee. The 20 year old center field prospect also spent time with both Wilmington and Northwest Arkansas, where he slashed a combined total of .263/.382/.390 through 100 total games played. He spent a majority of the season in Wilmington.

Brian Buchanan

Brian Buchanan is the hitting coach for the Omaha Storm Chasers, and he will also serve as the hitting coach for the Surprise Saguaros in the Arizona Fall League. He was chosen as the representative for the Kansas City Royals organization.
