Kansas City Royals: Preview vs. Milwaukee Brewers
The Kansas City Royals will face off against The Milwaukee Brewers in Surprise, AZ. Jakob Junis will his first start of the spring as he faces Junior Guerra of the Brewers. The first pitch is at 2:05 CST.
The Royals
Yesterday, the Royals made another surprise in Surprise by signing Free Agent Outfielder Jon Jay to a 1yr/1.5M contract. This signing shows us how Dayton is forming this team together. The Royals have signed 3 veterans (Alcides Escobar, Lucas Duda, and Jay) to cheap one-year deals. The Royals in 2018 will look a lot older than we thought and should have a relatively-competitive team on the field.
Jakob Junis will head to the mound to start the game. Last season, Junis got 16 starts in Kansas City where he put up a 4.30 ERA. He started hot but got in over his head a bit and was sent down in June. Upon being promoted in August through the end of the season, his ERA was 3.61. The Royals are hopeful he can continue to improve and be a key piece in this rotation in 2018.
The Brewers
This will be the first time the Kansas City Royals have seen the Brewers this spring. The club will likely see Lorenzo Cain for the first time since he signed with Milwaukee. The Brewers are looking to compete in 2018 and are hoping move ahead of the Chicago Cubs.
Junior Guerra will get the start for the Brewers. So far this spring, he’s pitched 3 innings and given up 4 hits, a walk, and one earned run. Last season, Guerra posted an ERA of 5.12 in 21 appearances.
