The Kansas City Royals will get back to business today against The San Diego Padres in Surprise, AZ. Nathan Karns will get the start against Luis Perdomo of the Padres. This will be The Royals’ first night game will start at 7:05 CST.

The Royals

Kansas City got back to winning last Sunday as they beat the Cincinnati Reds 10-3. The Royals have yet to see what Lucas Duda will bring to the team since signing him, so he could make his first appearance in this game. This could also be the last chance for some players to show Kansas City what they have before they are sent to minor league camp.

Nate Karns will get the start today as he looks to improve on the success he had last season. Last season he posted a 4.17 ERA prior to being shut down in May due to thoracic outlet syndrome surgery. He wants to show he is healed for the surgery and reading to go for Opening Day.

The Padres

The last time the Royals faced off against The Padres they beat us 13-5. Since then the Padres have gone 2-2. The Padres have added a few of their minor leaguers to their Spring Training roster since the two teams have last met.

Luis Perdomo will get his first start of the Spring as he looks to improve on last season. He put up a 4.67 ERA in 29 starts last season. Perdomo does well when he gets ahead in the count.

Keys to Success

Get ahead in the count. The Royals will need to have the most success against Perdomo in those first two innings. The bats will need to be alive early. The younger players need to keep showing the organization what they can do to have a shot at the 25-man-roster.
