The Royals are close to pulling the trigger on a Wade Davis trade, with both the Chicago Cubs and Washington Nationals making a strong push to acquire the Kansas City closer.
Just after Kansas City Royals general manger Dayton Moore commented that the team wasn’t close to a deal, the rumor mill started to heat up.
The first shot came from Yahoo.com’s Jeff Passan:
Soon after, Passan said there was a problem with the deal:
The plot thickened when reports hit twitter about the reason for the snag:

- KC Royals Free Agent Hunt: Any help in San Diego?

At this point, the early reports about the Cubs closing in on a deal for Greg Holland, and KC Royals GM asserting that the team wasn’t close to a deal because they weren’t getting offers to their liking, look like bargaining positions.
Whatever the case, if the above reports are true, then Moore is getting exactly what he wants. The Nationals, Cubs, and Dodgers are in a bidding war for Wade Davis. That result can only be good for the Kansas City Royals.
The rumor that the Cubs were concerned about Davis’ physical sounds like more rumor-mongering to bring down the price. Meanwhile, the Nats and Dodgers rumor could have come from Kansas City as a response. Or, the Nationals and Dodgers could very well be in the mix.
