KC Royals To Face Rebuilding Cincinnati Reds

On the heels of an 8-2 home stand, our KC Royals head out to Cincinnati and Boston this week for six games before briefly heading home. It’ll be a chance for these teams old faces to see old friends with Johnny Cueto and John Lamb.

It’ll also be a chance for the legion of Royal All-Stars to play at Great American Ballpark again this season. These teams are going in opposition directions but here we are, two games of a trip versus last place foes.

Probable Pitching Match-Ups:
Monday, 6:10 pm – Edinson Volquez/RHP (11-7, 3.27) v. Raisel Iglesias/RHP (3-4, 4.70)
Tuesday, 6:10 pm – Jeremy Guthrie/RHP (8-7, 5.63) v. Keyvius Sampson/RHP (1-1, 3.18)

Comments on Pitching Match-Ups – The Reds are throwing non-house hold names in order to plan for 2016 so you’ll see mostly names unfamiliar to you. Ned Yost will send two veterans who’ll look to extend KC’s modest three game win streak.

Game 1: Volquez pitches against his former after missing them when these team met earlier this season. Iglesias was seen in Kansas City when he came out in relief which the Royals hammered him.
Game 2: Guthrie perhaps is the biggest benefactor of the teams large division lead that they can keep throwing him out there. Sampson is another young arm that most fans outside Cincy are unfamiliar with so we’ll see how he does.

Series Prediction – This series on paper appears to be an easy two-game sweep for our boys in blue given that their opponent is in shutdown mode. Derby champion Todd Frazier plus veteran Brandon Phillips are still in the line-up and Aroldis Chapman anchors a bullpen when saves do exist. All that said Eric Hosmer, Kendrys Morales and Lorenzo Cain plus Ben Zobrist figure to be too much. Prediction: Royals win both games

2015 Meetings:
May 19 and 20 these teams faced off at Kauffman Stadium which KC won 3-0 and 7-1 with Yordano Ventura and Gurthie picking up victories. Both games were won with ease, Cueto even in defeat won fans hearts which sowed the seeds for him coming here haha.

Franchise History:
Kansas City holds an all-time advantage of 11-8 versus Cincinnati which includes a mark of 6-5 in the Queen City and 3-3 at Great American Ballpark.

TV/Radio Coverage:
FOX Sports Kansas City has both broadcasts for this series, Ryan Lefebvre and Rex Hudler bring you the action. Joel Goldberg and Royals Hall of Famer Jeff Montgomery host Royals Live before and after from the field.

On the Royals Radio Network (610 Sports in KC) are Royals Hall of Famer/2007 Ford C. Frick Award winner Denny Matthews who’s joined in the booth by Steve Physioc and Steve Stewart describing all the action from the K.
