KC Royals June 13th Minors Recap

Omaha lost to New Orleans, 5-4 in 13 innings. Both teams scored two runs in the 12th inning.

Both teams hit two-run home runs in the sixth (Paulo Orlando hit his first). Brett Eibner gave the Storm Chasers the lead in the top of the 12th with a two out, two-run single. The Zephyrs had the chance to win the game in the bottom of the 12th, but Eibner threw a runner out at the plate to send the game into the 13th inning.

Brian Broderick allowed the tying run to score in the 12th and then allowed two hits for the walk off loss.

Yohan Pino took the no decision, as he allowed two runs on seven hits and a walk over six innings. Scott Alexander followed with four scoreless innings of relief.

NW Arkansas beat Arkansas, 3-2 to increase their North Division lead in the Texas League to 4.5 games.

Matt Murray earned the win in relief of Miguel Almonte (4IP, 5H, 2R, BB, K). Murray allowed just two hits over the final five innings. He retired the final eight batters of the game.

*In roster news, catcher Micah Gibbs was added from Omaha.

Wilmington lost their third straight and second in Salem, this time by a 1-0 score. It was a walk off win for the Red Sox. With the loss, the Blue Rocks lead in the Northern Division of the Carolina League shrunk to three games over Lynchburg (and four over Frederick) with eight to go.

After Alec Mills threw eight shutout innings (four hits and four strikeouts), Kevin McCarthy entered in the bottom of the ninth. He recorded just one out (a sac bunt), while allowing three singles.

The Blue Rocks collected just five hits, two by Carlos Garcia (a double and a triple). They did not have a base runner over the final four innings.

*In roster news, South Atlantic League All-Star Matt Strahm was added from Lexington, while fellow reliever Andrew Edwards was “sent” to Idaho Falls. Edwards is dealing with an ankle issue.

Lexington held on to beat Greensboro, 6-5.

Scott Blewett earned his first win, as he allowed two runs on four hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out seven. Evan Beal earned his third save, though he allowed a run on two hits over 1.1 innings.

The Legends collected 13 hits, with five hitters having multi-hit games. The top three in the order: Corey Toups, Humberto Arteaga, and Ryan O’Hearn, all had two hits. Toups drove in two runs with two outs and stole his 14th base. O’Hearn walked twice.

Wander Franco also had two hits and two RBIs.
