KC Royals Place Danny Duffy on Disabled List

We had to know that something was wrong with Danny Duffy this season for the KC Royals. The only problem is, we did not know what. His command was off, and Duffy appeared to be struggling mentally. It appeared as though his spot in the rotation was tenuous at best with every poor outing, especially after the Royals skipped his start last week.

Well, now we seem to have an answer for those issues. According to Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star, Duffy has been placed on the disabled list due to a shoulder issue. Brandon Finnegan is back for today, and will be sent back to the minors tomorrow to make room for the new starter for Tuesday’s outing, Jason Vargas.

This stint on the disabled list for Duffy may be more than the Royals telling him that he is injured while they look to get his head in order. McCollough also mentioned that the Royals gave Duffy a cortisone shot in that troublesome shoulder on Friday, and it did not respond to the treatment.

Perhaps this is what has been the issue with Danny Duffy thus far for the KC Royals. Perhaps he has had the shoulder discomfort for some time, and has just been trying to pitch through the pain, especially while Vargas has been hurt. If so, then after this stint on the disabled list, the Royals may get back the Duffy they had been hoping for this season.

Hopefully, rest and rehab will be all that Duffy needs to get back on the field and to have his shoulder feel better. Even with his struggles, Duffy is still expected to be a key part of the Royals rotation going forward, and getting him back on track will only help a team that is already the best in baseball.

A healthy Danny Duffy will only make the KC Royals better. Hopefully, that can happen soon.
