Triple Play Podcast: Royals Preview Extravaganza
This week’s Triple Play Podcast is a Royals bonanza. While there were some interesting things that happened around the league, we devoted the entire show to the boys in blue. Reese, Matt, and I started it off with the news of Brandon Finnegan being optioned to Double-A. Needless to say, we all loved that decision.
Alex Gordon is back in the Royals’ lineup, and he’s pain-free, which is outstanding news, and hopefully he’ll soon be in negotiations for a contract extension, which would be even more outstanding. In other injury news, Luke Hochevar appears ticketed for Omaha to start the season on a rehab stint. This could open up a spot for Louis Coleman to take the 7th and final bullpen spot, now that it looks like the Royals want a 5th outfielder to have on the bench.

From there, we dug into a position-by-position breakdown for the team, starting with the rotation. Yordano Ventura and Danny Duffy should be lots of fun to watch, and even if there are doubts about Edinson Volquez, the Royals have plenty of depth, with Chris Young and Kris Medlen, among others, ready to step in at some point.
The bullpen is stupid good, so we didn’t need to spend much time on that unit. There are absolutely some questions to be answered in the lineup, and each of us have a player or two who we feel can really help drive the bus in 2015. Some of them might surprise you. Some of them might not surprise you. Even if the offense struggles, the Royals’ defense should once again be the best in the game.
Finally, we wrapped up the preview with a final record prediction, as well as where we think the team will finish in the division race.
