Triple Play Podcast: Royals and Tomas, Stanton’s Deal, Victor Martinez

facebooktwitterreddit

This week’s episode of the Triple Play Podcast starts off with a discussion of  Giancarlo Stanton‘s massive contract extension, and whether or not it could work out for the Marlins. Since he’s only 25, it’s tough to compare it to the other mega-deals we’ve seen in the past. We also talk about the 4-year, $68 million contract the Tigers gave to  nearly-36-year old Victor Martinez, and, spoiler alert: we liked the Stanton deal quite a bit better.

The opening segment also includes a mention of A.J. Burnett signing with the Pirates, and the Diamondbacks trading a pair of interesting prospects for the Rays’ Jeremy Hellickson.

We kicked off our Royals discussion with some talk on the Arizona Fall League, before digging into some comments made by Aaron Crow last week about his disappointment in being left off the postseason roster. From there, we spent some time on the Royals’ interest in Yasmany Tomas, and the legitimacy of their pursuit of the Cuban outfielder. While the Royals tend to have little chance of landing premier free agents, this situation feels slightly different, so only time will tell. And probably Tomas, when he decides where to sign.
