Royals AFL November 12th Recap
Peoria lost in walk off fashion to Mesa, 6-5 in 11 innings. Cal Towey of the LA Angels hit a walk off home run to lead off the inning.
Both teams scored in the ninth (Edward Salcedo of Atlanta led off with a home run), with the Solar Sox tying the game up and sending it into extra innings. Then both teams scored in the tenth.
KC Royals top prospect Raul Mondesi led off the top of the tenth with a double. He came around to score on St. Louis catcher Cody Stanley‘s one out single. With two outs in the bottom of the tenth, the Solar Sox scored on a pop up into shallow right field.
The Javelinas had the bases loaded in both the seventh and ninth, but could not score. Cleveland second baseman/catcher Tony Wolters grounded out in the seventh and Mesa reliever Austin House (Oakland) escaped the bases loaded, no out jam in the ninth by striking out the side (that included both Wolters and Royals prospect Bubba Starling).
As the Arizona Fall League season comes to an end, Hunter Dozier has begun to heat up. In his last five games (Peoria’s last five), he has nine hits. Dozier went 3-for-4 with a double, two walks, a run scored, and an RBI.
Mondesi went 1-for-7 from the leadoff spot. He committed his fifth error of the AFL season, a fielding error to start the sixth.
Bubba Starling batted eighth and went 1-for-5 with a walk and three strikeouts.
With Surprise winning on Wednesday, the Javelinas are one game back with one game remaining. The two teams will face off on Thursday afternoon. Saturday afternoon is the AFL Championship (3:08pm ET on MLBNetwork).
