Royals AFL November 3rd Recap
Starting Week 5 in the Arizona Fall League, Peoria now has a two-game winning streak as they held on to beat visiting Scottsdale, 6-5.
KC Royals prospect Miguel Almonte won his first AFL game in the start on Monday afternoon. He allowed one run on five hits and a walk over 3.2 innings. He struck out five and threw 43 of his 69 pitches for strikes.
Almonte was pulled with two on and two outs in the fourth in favor of Royals teammate Daniel Stumpf. Stumpf left both runners stranded with a strikeout. He went back out in the fifth and allowed a run on two hits and a walk. A passed ball did not help. Stumpf struck out three and threw 22 of his 32 pitches for strikes.
Next up for the Javelinas was Royals reliever Ali Williams, who needed just seven pitches to dispatch the Scorpions 1-2-3 in the sixth. Lefty Sam Selman struck out one in his perfect inning of work (the seventh).
So Peoria manager Vance Wilson used all four of his Royals pitchers in this afternoon’s game.
The only Royal position player to play was Bubba Starling, who started in centerfield and moved to right field in the seventh. He went 0-for-4 with a strikeout (he batted eighth).
The Javelinas play at Scottsdale on Tuesday afternoon.
*Remember former Royals minor league infielder Jake Kuebler? Well, he is now a pitcher in the NY Mets organization. Kuebler made his second relief appearance this afternoon for the Scorpions (1IP, H, 0R, BB, 0K).
