Triple Play Podcast: Samardzija Trade, Eric Hosmer, Royals All-Stars
On this week’s episode of the Triple Play Podcast, Reese, Matt, and I start things off by mentioning the incredible career of Lou Gehrig, who gave his famous retirement speech 75 years ago. We then discuss the major news on the trade market, meaning the Athletics’ acquisition of Jeff Samardzija for Addison Russell (with other pieces involved, of course).
From there, we moved onto the Royals, and specifically Eric Hosmer, who was riding a very large struggle bus up until the last week or so. We also talked about the team signing Raul Ibanez and Scott Downs to meet their self-imposed “Old Guy” quota.

Finally, we break down the Royals’ deserving All Stars. Alcides Escobar was a definite snub, and probably had an argument to start the game. Alex Gordon also should be starting, but that seems to be a moot point with his recent wrist injury. Salvador Perez earned his starting spot, although it required an injury to Matt Wieters to come to fruition. Greg Holland obviously had to make the team, and while Wade Davis was deserving, there are quite a few other elite relievers in the league he was competing against for that spot.
