Royals April 30th Minors Recap

It was a light Wednesday for the Kansas City Royals farm system, as rain postponed two games this afternoon.

Omaha and Iowa were postponed for the second consecutive day and the two teams will play a doubleheader on Thursday, beginning at 10am. PJ Walters will start the first game, with veteran Brett Tomko starting the second game.

NW Arkansas was the lone team in action and held on for the 6-4 victory over first place Springfield.

Third baseman Cheslor Cuthbert returned to the lineup for the first time since April 23rd (wrist) and made a splash in his return. Cuthbert hit a two-run home run in the 3rd inning that broke the 2-2 tie and added a solo shot in the fifth that ended up being the game winner.

Whit Merrifield led off for the Naturals and went 2-for-3 with two walks. Juan Graterol also had two hits, including a double.

Andrew Triggs earned the win in relief of starter JC Sulbaran (4.1 IP, 5H, 4R, 3ER, 3BB, 3K, HR). Triggs allowed three hits over 3.2 scoreless innings. He also threw 30 of his 41 pitches for strikes. Scott Alexander picked up his second save of the season with a perfect ninth.

Wilmington had Wednesday off as they travel to play Carolina beginning Thursday night.

Lexington was rained out against Lakewood. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Thursday night.
