A Few Royals Minor League Notes

This is the torturous period of the baseball offseason. It’s been a long time since baseball, but there are still a few weeks ahead before spring training officially begins.

There are still a few happenings here and there, and with the Royals being quiet on the market, most of the discussion hinges on the farm system.

Clint Scoles at Pinetar Press went so far as to try to predict the rosters of the Royals minor leagues. There are a lot of good players to fit into a limited number of spots, so it’ll be interesting to see how it finally turns out. You can compare Clint’s assignments to the Storm Chasers projections that Paul Thompson did earlier this month.

It wouldn’t be the offseason without prospect rankings, and Baseball Prospect Nation has a top 15 set up. No surprise – Wil Myers is the top prospect, but it’s interesting to see how they fill it out the rest of the way. Nathaniel Stoltz from Seedlings to Stars included seven of those names in his Top 100 overall prospect rankings, but found no notable snubs.

According to Twitter, a lot of players are heading down to Arizona early. 2010 fifth round pick Jason Adam made it the other day. Danny Duffy landed today. His battery-mate, Salvador Perez, is down there as well. The best news is that John Lamb, who went under the knife for Tommy John surgery last June, is in Arizona and has been cleared to start a throwing program under supervision of the club. Meanwhile, Ryan Verdugo will report on the 20th and Wil Myers is in Tampa for some offseason workouts for now.
