Moustakas Officially Promoted to Omaha
It’s finally official, as Mike Moustakas has been promoted to Omaha in Triple A. Moose’s promotion has been a topic of speculation all season, as he’s been a hitting machine since joining Northwest Arkansas halfway through April after opening the season with an oblique strain.
Moustakas hit .347/.413/.687/1.100 with 21 homeruns and 76 RBI in his first 298 plate appearances in Double A. So far, he’s been promoted between seasons and not in the middle of the season, so it will be interesting to see how he adjusts to a higher level of competition.
His performance in the first half earned him a spot on the Texas League All-Star Team and he started at third base for Team USA in Sunday’s MiLB All-Star Futures game. There hasn’t been a corresponding roster move to fill his roster spot in Northwest Arkansas, but Jamie Romak has hit well in his first week in Double A so they won’t need to promote a third baseman for Moustakas’s position. I’ve said it for a while now, but Eric Hosmer is ready for a shot in Double A. I hope he makes the move up next.
