Triple Play Podcast: Royals Hall of Fame, Ben Zobrist Trade

facebooktwitterreddit

On this week’s episode of the Triple Play Podcast, Reese, Matt, and I discuss the endlessly fascinating A’s offseason, which was (potentially) capped off by acquiring Ben Zobrist and Yunel Escobar from the Rays in exchange for John Jaso, top prospect Daniel Robertson, and outfield prospect Boog Powell. No, not that Boog Powell.

Billy Beane has been a busy man this winter, and now the A’s have an extremely good and extremely versatile player on their roster. While some of his earlier moves made it seem like Oakland would be on the fringe of contention, this trade should keep them right in the middle of it all.

More from KC Royals News

As for the Rays, they’re clearly a worse team without their starting middle infielders from last year, but they hope Asdrubal Cabrera and Nick Franklin can keep them afloat.

In Royals news, the team signed 4 players to minor league deals over the weekend, so we talked about them. Alex Liddi, Brandon Jacobs, Roman Colon, and everyone’s favorite, Mitch Maier will all be Royals farmhands in 2015. Liddi and Jacobs could be interesting to watch, while Colon is likely nothing more than filler at this point. Maier should be back in Northwest Arkansas where he can bestow his knowledge upon the younger players.

The Royals also have released their team Hall of Fame candidates, headlined by Mike Sweeney, Bo Jackson, and John Wathan. We spent some time talking about who deserves to be enshrined next to Brett, White, Howser, and the rest of the crew.
