Triple Play Podcast: Royals Right Field Rumors, Twins, MLB Awards

facebooktwitterreddit

We’ve got all sorts of fun baseball talk for you on this week’s episode of the Triple Play Podcast. Reese, Matt, and I start the show by discussing the Rays’ managerial opening, and how it seems like they continue to add more candidates to their list. Manny Acta and Dave Martinez were two of the first men to interview for the position, and if things take long enough, I might get a shot at it. Probably not, but maybe.

Speaking of managers, the Twins hired Paul Molitor to take over for Ron Gardenhire, and none of us are terribly certain it’s going to work out. Molitor is inexperienced, so it will be imperative for him to be surrounded by a strong coaching staff, and for the front office to give him enough time to develop their young core of talent.

We then spent some time talking about the Astros’ acquisition of framer extraordinaire, Hank Conger, and what it could mean for their current catcher, Jason Castro.

The next topic focused on the Gold Gloves handed out last week, including three of them to Royals for the second consecutive year. For the most part, it seems like the right guys won, although there were a couple of notable errors, in our collective opinion. We also handed out some awards of our own to the players we thought should win Rookie of the Year, the Cy Young Award, and the MVP.

In our Royals segment, we talk a bit about the Royals’ signing of Ryan Roberts to a minor league contract, and whether or not it means anything, before jumping into some right field rumors. Nori Aoki and Torii Hunter are two names the Royals have been connected to so far, so we discuss how well both of those players would fit into the team for 2015.
