With the game scoreless heading into the top of the fifth, Salt River erupted for 11 runs en route to their 12-2 drubbing of Peoria (at Surprise). The Javelinas will play their first night game and their first official road game on Saturday.

The Rafters sent 16 men to the plate in the 5th inning against three Peoria pitchers. Nick Maronde (Cleveland) did not record an out, despite facing seven batters (five hits and two walks). Matt Lollis (Tampa Bay) was next and he did record two outs (both force outs at the plate). He walked two and allowed a grand slam (along with two singles). Brandon Cunniff (Atlanta) finally got out of the inning with a line out.

KC Royals lefty Sam Selman entered in the seventh in relief of Cunniff with two outs and two men on base. After a wild pitch, he got a pop up in foul territory to escape. Selman walked the first batter he faced, but induced a double play from slugger Peter O’Brien and another ground out to end the eighth.

Raul Mondesi led off for the Javelinas and went 0-for-5 with a strikeout. He played shortstop and started three double plays. Bubba Starling was the DH and went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts.

*Former Royal Jason Adam (Minnesota) allowed a run on three hits over two innings for the Rafters. He pitched the sixth and seventh and got Starling to pop up to end the sixth and Mondesi flied out in the seventh.
