In 2014, the Kansas City Royals were agonizingly close to taking home a World Series championship. Last year, they took care of that unfinished business, winning the title in amazing fashion. That journey is a source of inspiration for this year’s Super Bowl runner up Carolina Panthers.
Perhaps the only thing worse than not making the postseason is to lose in the playoffs. At least if a team does not make it, then one can have the knowledge that they just are not good enough yet. Losing in the postseason can carry quite a few “what if” questions, as Kansas City Royals fans know from Game Seven of the 2014 World Series.
But losing in the postseason can have a galvanizing affect on a team. The Royals considered their 2014 loss as inspiration, and took care of that unfinished business last year. Naturally, the Carolina Panthers are looking at the Royals as a source of inspiration, as they are hoping to avenge their Super Bowl loss next year.

If anything, one might almost feel sorry for the Mets here. They were simply trying to offer their support and commiserate with the Panthers, only to have the Royals title thrown back in their faces. It’s highly likely that the Mets did not expect that conversation to take such a savage turn.
Despite the harshness, this tweet shows a different mindset. Yes, the Panthers, like the Royals in 2014, had an excellent season. However, they still fell short of the ultimate goal, failing to take home the championship. Now, the Panthers have their own unfinished business to take care of, and are looking at the Royals own title run as inspiration for next year.
Although the Royals were still a laughing stock back in the early part of the decade, it feels like a long time ago now. Those twenty years were almost like a nightmare from which we just awoke from. Having other teams, like the Panthers, look to the Royals for inspiration just shows how far the team has come in the past few years.
