The Royals will send seven minor leaguers to the Arizona Fall League, beginning play on October 12.
The seven, along with seven players each from the Texas Rangers, St. Louis Cardinals, Milwaukee Brewers and Detroit Tigers, will comprise the roster of the Surprise Rafters. Should the team play well enough to reach the championship game, they’ll play until November 20.
You’ll recognize the names of the Royals representatives…
Six of the players come from the Texas League Champion Northwest Arkansas Naturals, with the exception being 20 year old catcher Sal Perez from Wilmington. Johnny Giavotella and Derrick Robinson will provide scrappiness and speed, while Patrick Keating will come out of the bullpen.
And, as would be expected, Eric Hosmer, Danny Duffy and Mike Montgomery will participate as well. Those three will also be playing in the Pan Am games from October 1 until the 10th representing Team USA along with Mike Moustakas, Tim Collins and Everett Teaford, so I hope those three won’t be sick of each other by December.
Then again, the whole group could be around each other for a long time as they come up through the system and make the big league club.
