Lorde Song ‘Royals’ Banned by San Francisco Radio Stations

Of all the casualties that would have been expected in the Kansas City Royals World Series matchup with the San Francisco Giants, one would have never expected that a song would fall by the wayside. As it happens, the song ‘Royals’ by New Zealand musician Lorde has fallen prey to the success of the Kansas City baseball team.

As Lorde found inspiration in an old photograph of George Brett signing autographs, it may be expected that music stations in San Francisco would want to avoid the song. After all, there really is no true counter song that says Giants repetitively, unlike Lorde’s song. Unless, of course, San Francisco music stations want to counter by playing select hits from They Might Be Giants immediately afterwards. After all, who would not want to hear the earworm ‘Particle Man’ over and over and over again?

  • With this ban, we now know that it is probably best not to refer to Madison Bumgarner as ‘Queen Bee.’ Nor would it be in our best interests to point out that Pablo Sandoval is ‘bigger than we ever dreamed.’ Stealing bases certainly don’t run in their blood, as the Royals stole 97 more bases than the Giants in the regular season. But this ban likely does not matter, as Hunter Pence likes the song anyway.

However, those of you who want to hear Lorde’s hit tune have no need for despair. To make up for the ban by those San Francisco music stations, Kansas City radio station 99.7, KZPT, will play the song at the top of every hour from 7:00am until 7:00pm. Of course, KZPT could take this a step further and ban They Might Be Giants from the airwaves until the World Series is over, but no one would know the difference.

It seems that the Giants will never be Royals. Now that the Royals are bigger than we ever dreamed, a World Series title is all that is left for the Royals to rule the baseball world. The least the Giants could do is to let us live that fantasy.
