Omar Infante

Chances are, Omar Infante will not be drafted in your league unless you happen to be in a truly deep league. Even then, there may be the temptation to draft Infante hoping for a bounceback season, thinking that the late round selection could well pay off. Infante may, for some, be an interesting sleeper.

Don’t fall into that trap. Taking away his excellent 2013 season, Infante has a .268/.296/.380 batting line since making the All-Star team in 2010. He has been below replacement level in each of those seasons, making him a poor contributor in real baseball, not just in fantasy.

Infante’s production last season, a thoroughly mediocre .252/.295/.337 batting line that was reminiscent of Chris Getz, was certainly hampered by the injuries he had to suffer through. However, at age 33, he is not likely to get much healthier. In fact, Infante has already dealt with injuries during Spring Training, having a sore arm and inflammation in his elbow. Those hopes for health do not appear to be coming to fruition.

There may be a bit of a temptation to consider Omar Infante a sleeper based on the hopes of a bounceback season. Instead, wait to see if he can remain healthy and perform before giving him a roster spot. Let someone else make that draft pick.
