Chris Getz and Lorenzo Cain continue their rehab with the Storm Chasers. Getz led off, played second base the whole game, and went 0-for-4 with a run scored. Cain batted third, played centerfield the whole game, and went 1-for-2 with a double.

Omaha stole five bases, but none of them resulted in a run.

NW Arkansas lost to Corpus Christi, 7-3. The Naturals had their chance in the 9th inning with the tying run at the plate in three straight at-bats, but two of those hitters struck out. They have now lost six in a row.

After the Naturals took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the 3rd inning, Corpus Christi came back with seven runs from the 6th inning on. In that 3rd inning for the Naturals, Yem Prades hit a three-run homerun. Reliever Nick Rogers once again struggled with his command in the 9th inning and recorded just one out (while allowing two runs on two walks, a hit batter, and a single).

Catcher Manny Pina continued his rehab with the Naturals as the DH. He went 1-for-4 while batting cleanup.

Blue Rocks pitcher Elisaul Pimentel

Wilmington lost 8-3 to visiting Myrtle Beach to begin their homestand. Elisaul Pimentel went toe-to-toe with Pelicans starter (and All-Star) Kyle Hendricks. Both allowed two runs over six innings of work and neither factored into the decision.

The Pelicans scored six runs over the final two innings of the game against Blue Rocks reliever Andrew Stueve. The Blue Rocks two runs came in the 4th inning when Cheslor Cuthbert and Matt Fields hit back-to-back solo homeruns. As a team, they only collected five hits in the loss.

Kane County won their first game of their road trip in Wisconsin, 5-1. Angel Baez continues to dominate for the Cougars, as he allowed one run on four hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out five and the lone run came via a solo homerun in the 4th inning. 2012 draft pick Andrew Triggs continues to dominate since beginning his professional debut. He pitched two perfect innings of relief.

Alex Llanos hit his first homerun for the Cougars, a two-run shot, in the 6th inning. Jack Lopez went 4-for-5.

Bubba Watch: Bubba Starling went 0-for-3 in Burlington’s 3-2 walk-off victory.

After watching Iowa take the lead in the bottom of the 8th inning, Johnny Giavotella tied the game back up with a solo homerun in the top of the 9th inning.

The late scoring for the Cubs negated the solid spot start by Roman Colon. He allowed one run on two hits over five innings.

NW Arkansas lost to Corpus Christi, 3-0. The Naturals only had one hit prior to the 9th inning (a one out Yem Prades single in the 6th inning) against Hooks starter Ross Seaton. They finished with three hits total (from the top three in the order).

Bryan Paukovits tossed 3.1 scoreless innings of relief and struck out seven.

Manny Pina continued his rehab assignment and caught all nine innings (he went 0-for-3).

Blue Rocks reliever Sam Runion

Wilmington defeated Lynchburg 6-5 in ten innings on getaway day. Lane Adams hit his second homerun of the game in the top of the 10th inning. That was the Blue Rocks fourth solo homerun of the game.

The Blue Rocks collected 12 hits and five hitters had multi-hit games.

Sam Runion picked up the win with two scoreless innings of relief.

Kane County lost their home series to Quad Cities with a 6-1 loss. The Cougars now head back out on the road for a short three-game series in Wisconsin.

The Cougars collected just six hits, but only went 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position. The lack of offense made a loser of Kellen Moen, who allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits over six innings. He struck out five.

Bubba Watch: Bubba Starling went 1-for-3 with a walk, a double, and a run scored in Burlington’s 5-2 win over Bristol. The story of the game was the start by 2012 draft pick Colin Rodgers, who tossed six hitless inning. He struck out three and the only baserunner came via a hit batter in the second inning.

Sugar Ray Marimon

Let’s start with the CL-CL game. The Wilmington Blue Rocks were represented by two starting pitchers, Yordano Ventura and Sugar Ray Marimon. Despite the fact that neither started the game in Winston-Salem, Marimon did pick up the victory. He pitched the 4th inning, struck out two, and only threw 13 pitches. The Carolina League took the lead in the bottom of the 4th inning and held on for the 9-1 win. Ventura followed him up with a scoreless 5th inning (though he walked a batter).

Kane County was the host for the Midwest League ASG and it was over after the first two innings (though they played all nine). The East led 13-0 after two innings and won 18-2 while pounding out 20 hits. Unfortunately, the Cougars representatives played for the West squad. Outfielders Jorge Bonifacio and Lane Adams started and batted 3-4 in the order. They went a combined 0-for-5. The bright spot was reliever Matt Ridings. He got into the game in the 5th inning with two outs and struck out the only batter he faced (on three pitches).

Now onto the other regular season games.

Omaha won again, as they beat Memphis, 3-2. Jeremy Jeffress made it interesting in the 9th inning, as he allowed a run and the Redbirds had the tying run on second base. However Jeffress got Pete Kozma to line out to end the game.

It was all about pitching, as veteran Doug Davis made the start and allowed just one run over six innings of work. Francisley Bueno followed with two scoreless innings of relief.

NW Arkansas seems to still have fight left in them at the end of the first half. They have won the first two games of their series against first-place Tulsa, as they won again Tuesday night in walk-off fashion. The Naturals won 5-4 in 11 innings.

With two outs and two men on base in the bottom of the 11th inning, Yem Prades delivered the game winning single.

For the Naturals, there was good starting pitching and a good finish. Michael Mariot allowed just one run on six hits and a walk over seven innings. Tim Sexton picked up the win after throwing three scoreless innings of relief.

After winning ten in a row, Omaha has now lost two straight, as they lost the finale in Nashville on Sunday, 4-1. The Storm Chasers out-hit the Sounds, 10-6 but committed three errors, went 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position, and grounded into two double plays.

Wil Myers went 4-for-5, but did not score a run. Salvador Perez caught all nine innings (but did not collect a hit).

With the injury to Chris Getz at the big league level, Johnny Giavotella was taken out after his first at-bat (a first inning strikeout). Max Ramirez replaced Gio in the lineup and went 2-for-4.

Mike Montgomery was solid, despite the loss. He allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits and three walks over six innings.

NW Arkansas ended their two game losing streak with a 4-3 victory over Springfield to split the four-game series. Chris Dwyer pitched into the 8th inning before really getting into trouble. He allowed two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out six.

The Cardinals made it interesting in the 9th inning, but Buddy Baumann worked around an RBI double and two walks to escape with the save.

Yem Prades provided the insurance (and actual game winning run) with a solo homerun in the top of the 9th inning. Eric Duncan gave the Naturals the lead in the 4th inning with a two-run homerun.

Wilmington tied an unfortunate record in the team’s history: most losses in a first half. They tied the 2000 team with 41 first half losses. The 2000 team (which was full of prospects at the time) was one of the worst teams in history. The Blue Rocks lost to Winston-Salem, 6-5 in ten innings to end the first half.

It was a bullpen game for the Blue Rocks and they actually led 4-1 before the Dash scored three runs in the 4th inning. Nick Rogers was the hard-luck loser, as he allowed an unearned run in the top of the 10th inning. He walked three (he did not allow a hit) over 2.1 innings.

The bottom two in the Blue Rocks order, bench players Michael Liberto and Luis Piterson, went 4-for-9. The Blue Rocks out-hit the Dash, 11-9, but went just 3-for-13 with runners in scoring position and struck out 12 times.

The Blue Rocks have the next three days off for the All-Star break and hopefully can forget about the first half and play better when the second half starts on Thursday in Carolina.

Kane County is heading into the All-Star break on a down note, just like the Blue Rocks. The Cougars have lost five in a row (and eight of their last nine), as they lost Sunday’s finale to Cedar Rapids, 5-3. The Cougars bullpen did throw four hitless (and scoreless) innings of relief.

On offense, Daniel Mateo, Jorge Bonifacio, and Orlando Calixte each had two hits (six of the team’s eight hits). Calixte hit his tenth homerun of the season.

Omaha got the best of Round Rock and Major League veteran Roy Oswalt, 7-2. In his second start since signing with the Texas Rangers, Oswalt allowed five runs on six hits over four innings. All five runs came in the bottom of the 3rd inning, four coming on Wil Myers‘ grand slam (his 8th homerun in Triple-A).

It was a KC Royals rehab game on Thursday night. Everett Teaford started and allowed one run (on a solo homerun) over two innings. He allowed two hits while striking out two. Chris Getz led off and played second base. He went 1-for-2 with a run scored and a walk. Salvador Perez DH’ed and went 2-for-4, with a double and a strikeout.

Jake Odorizzi picked up the win, as he allowed just one run on five hits and two walks over 6.2 innings. He struck out ten (97 pitches, 68 for strikes). He did however leave the game with the bases loaded, but Tommy Hottovy threw just two pitches to escape and close out the victory.

NW Arkansas walked off against Arkansas, 6-5 in ten innings. With runners at second and third base and two outs, Yem Prades delivered the game winner, a ground ball to third base. He went 3-for-6 with two runs scored. The game headed to extra innings after the Travelers tied the game at 5-5 in the top of the 9th inning.

The game was tied at 4-4 after the 5th inning before the Naturals tied the game in the bottom of the 8th inning on a Rey Navarro RBI single. The Naturals had 13 hits, with Christian Colon and Paulo Orlando collecting two of them.

After Chris Dwyer struggled yet again (89 pitches over just four innings), Buddy Baumann came on in relief and did not allow a hit or walk over four scoreless innings.
