Tonight we continue an exciting new venture for Kings of Kauffman and its podcast, the Royalman Report.

Jeff Logan of the Kansas City Baseball Historical Society joins forces with us to form the Kansas City Baseball Vault on Kansas City’s ESPN 1510 AM from 6-7 p.m. every Thursday night. Listeners can tune into traditional radio or streaming live on 1510.com.

Tonight, we get to talk with Sal Bando, former A’s all-star third baseman and Brewers GM about his time in Kansas City with the A’s and his experience as a general manager in a small market.

We’ll continue on that theme as we talk with Tyrone Brooks, the director of player personnel for the Pittsburgh Pirates. They’ve made strides this year, as they’re currently tied with the Cardinals for first in the NL Central. We’ll see if any lessons from their growth could be applied to Kansas City.

Troy and the Jeffs were joined on the phone by Betty Caywood-Bushman and Monte Moore, the original announcers of the KC A’s.

We then talked about the Brewers series, the minor leagues, the T-Bones and the upcoming Royals Series as well as recent moves by the Royals.

Our first guest is Rene Lachemann, a former Kansas City Athletic, and later a manger for multiple teams. He’s currently the hitting instructor for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox.

We’ll also talk with Andy of High Heat Stats to reveal the final results of the Royals Mount Rushmore.

Along with that we’ll cover the past week in baseball in Kansas City and try to guess what lies ahead.

In the inaugural episode of the Kansas City Baseball Vault, we talked with former Kansas City Athletic Mike Hershberger about his time in Kansas City, his experiences with Charlie Finley, Reggie Jackson and the infamous goat. Back in his day, he was a defensive specialist and he talked about the skills he brought to the field.

We also got to talk to Clint Robinson before Omaha’s game in Sacramento. We wanted to know about Clint’s approach with Eric Hosmer and Billy Butler ahead of him in Kansas City, as well as his thoughts on the promotions of Irving Falu and Johnny Giavotella. He also talked about a certain prank they’ve pulled a few times, but wouldn’t divulge who the key conspirator was. Clint is hitting well again in the minors as he waits for a spot in Kansas City.

We wrapped up by talking about the middle infield situation and the logjam of second basemen in Kansas City, as well as what might happen with Luke Hochevar and Jonathan Sanchez.
