Louis Coleman Reaches The Show; Texeira Optioned

The Royals announced today that RHP Louis Coleman (#16 in the Kings of Kauffman Prospect Rankings) will be promoted from Omaha to Kansas City, where he’ll wear 46 on his jersey. He’ll take the place of RHP Kanekoa Texeira, who has been optioned to Omaha.

While it was seemingly a sudden move, the demotion of Texeira makes some sense. Even with an ERA of 2.84, Texeira has given up 13 hits in 6.1 innings so far while compiling a ripe WHIP of 2.526. While he has potential as a solid middle reliever, he has had a rough start to 2011. It’s been considerably worse than his 2010 campaign, so this move makes sense.

Kanekoa Texeira Placed on DL

Rookie long reliever Kanekoa Texeira was placed on the 15 day DL this afternoon retroactive to yesterday with a right elbow strain. He’ll be able to return September 12.

In his place, the Royals activated reliever Robinson Tejeda from the DL after nearly a month on the shelf with a strained tendon in his right biceps.

Game Recap: 6/15 Houston Astros vs. Royals

The Royals hosted their second National League team at Kauffman Stadium, welcoming the Houston Astros and Felipe Paulino. The Royals countered with Kyle Davies.

Kansas City struck first, turning three singles by Scott Podsednik, David DeJesus and Billy Butler into the first run of the game. The Astros countered with a one out RBI double by Pedro Feliz that scored Hunter Pence.

Royals Rewind: 6/7-6/13

So first off, the structure and pattern of the Rewind is going to be changing. To be honest, it’s a little bit of a grind deciphering my notes from games and plugging them into a large post. So moving forward (god I hate that phrase — too much time in the corporate retail world makes it grate on me), I’ll be posting the typical game recaps you’re accustomed to after each game with a sprinkling of stat-geek-ness. The actual “Rewind” will still come on Sunday/Monday to hit the trends and follow up on prior observations and also take a look at the week’s numbers. More or less, it’s going to be the same stuff, but in different serving sizes.

Now, on with the show: the Royals returned to Minnesota’s Target Field this week, then traveled to the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati to restart interleague play.

Royals Rewind: 5/31-6/6

The Royals started strong but fizzled out in their brief four-game series at Fenway Park, taking the first two games easily, but scoring only one run in the remaining two. Would the Boston hangover hit Kansas City again, sending them spiraling towards a prolonged losing streak like in years past? Would the Royals bats wake up after being put to sleep by Clay Bucholz and Jon Lester?
