The Royals non-tendered Josh Anderson the night of December 12th. Apparently 11 days was too long to go without a light hitting OF with that surname. Thus, after 10 days, the Royals have signed Anderson, Brian N. to a one-year $700,000 contract. Dayton Moore has confused me once again. (more…)

The Royals made a series of very intelligent moves last night just before the arbitration deadline. Gone are John Buck and Josh Anderson, but Dayton Moore and company didn’t stop there agreeing to terms on 1-year deals with Roman Colon, Kyle Davies, and Brian Bannister. (more…)

My bulk of my offseason plan for the Royals is very simple. The team needs to acquire young players who are undervalued, have not yet lived up to their potential, or have little chance to receive the playing time they deserve with their current team. Today’s proposal focuses on 25 year old RF/LF-Jeremy Hermida of the Florida Marlins.

Goodbye Ryan Freel and Other Moves

Today the Kansas City Royals designated OF-Ryan Freel for assignment effectively ending the brief Royals chapter of his career. He was acquired from the Cubs for a player to be named later on July 6th. The end result of the trade is that the Royals got a little bit of cash and 30 days of service from Ryan Freel and gave up a player in the process. Even if the PTBNL is a nobody, with no shot of ever reaching the majors, this transaction is just another in a series of puzzling moves by Dayton Moore. (more…)

DFA’d Players the Royals Should Consider

Five players have been designated for assignment in the last 3 days. All five times my initial reaction was that the Royals would be a better team if they claimed each particular player. It is a sad state of affairs at the major league level for the Royals these days. Even Sidney Ponson throwing 6 shutout innings can’t stop the season from drowning in the sewer. As of today, only the Nationals and Padres are keeping the Royals from being the worst team in all of baseball and I’m not so sure KC would win a series against the Padres if they played this week. With that rosy backdrop in place, here is a breakdown of the 5 DFA’d players and my brief thoughts on each. (more…)
