KC Royals Smashed by Boston Red Sox in Series Finale
By Ethan Evans
Yikes.
The Red Sox opened the scoring with a solo home run by Hanley Ramirez in the second inning. They picked up another run in the fourth inning on a solo shot by David Ortiz and the Red Sox were up 2-0.
Boston really broke away in the fifth inning. Sandy Leon walked with one out before Mookie Betts hit a home run. After Brock Holt grounded out, Dustin Pedroia doubled and David Ortiz walked. Hanley Ramirez also walked to load the bases and Xander Bogaerts doubled to clear them off and make the score 7-0 in favor of the Red Sox. This was enough to run Chris Young from the game. He ended with a line of 4.2 IP/2 SO/3 BB/7 ER.

The Red Sox weren’t done though. They faced Jason Frasor in the sixth inning and after Mookie Betts walked with two outs, Brock Holt and Dustin Pedroia hit back-to-back doubles to make the score 9-0. David Ortiz then chased Frasor with a run-scoring single to make the score 10-0 before the Royals could get out of the inning.
In the eighth, Betts tripled off of Aaron Brooks followed by a Brock Holt triple. Then Pedroia singled to score Holt and the score was 12-0. They added a run in the ninth when Sandy Leon was able to hit a two-out single after Xander Bogaerts doubled to lead off the inning and the Red Sox had scored thirteen runs.
The KC Royals avoided the shutout in the ninth when Omar Infante and Drew Butera were able to reach on singles and Lorenzo Cain drove them home with a two-out triple to make the final score 13-2.
Minnesota lost today too which makes the loss a little easier to bear. The Royals end up losing the series against the Red Sox and hope to bounce back against the Mariners in Seattle tomorrow.
