KC Royals Series Preview: Royals (3-0) at Angels (2-1)

The first road trip of 2015 has Kansas City heading to Anaheim against Los Angeles which is a rematch of last season’s ALDS. No doubt the Angels want some revenge on the team that came in and swept them from the postseason.

However, the KC Royals confidence from last season seems to be carrying over with evidence from how KC dispatched Chicago this week 21-7 in their sweep. It’s the first time since 2008 that your boys in blue have opened 3-0 when they swept Detroit.

Probable Pitching Match-ups:
Friday, 9:05 pm – Jason Vargas/LHP v. Hector Santiago/LHP
Saturday, 8:05 pm – Jeremy Guthrie/RHP v. Jered Weaver/RHP (0-1, 6.00)
Sunday, 2:35 pm – Yordano Ventura/RHP (1-0, 1.50) v. C.J. Wilson (1-0, 0.00)

Comments on Pitching Match-ups –
Game 1: It’ll be the first start for both starting pitcher in this match-up this season. Vargas is coming off an 11-10 campaign with a 3.71 ERA, which included winning game three of the ALCS against Baltimore. The Long Beach State alumnus is 5-4 all-time against the Halos. Santiago was 6-9 with an ERA of 3.04 in 2014 for the Angels, he holds a 1-0 record against KC.
Game 2: Guthrie makes his 2015 debut after posting a 13-11 record where his ERA was 4.13, his postseason record was 1-1 where he was the pitcher of record in game two of the World Series (win) and seven (loss). Weaver is coming off an opening day defeat to Felix Hernandez in Seattle on Monday.
Game 3: Sunday afternoon will be a match-up of 1-0 pitchers with Ventura opposing Wilson. Fans last saw Yordano leaving the K with a hand cramp in the team’s 10-1 victory. Wilson outdueled James Paxton 2-0 at Safeco Field.

Series Predictions – On paper this should be a good series but I think the same could be said about the opening series. Again, LA will want some revenge on KC with how the Royals dispatched the Angels in three games. Friday and Sunday I’d lean towards Kansas City having the better starting pitching which with both teams having great bullpens will likely be the difference. Because of this I think it’ll be another series win for the team. Prediction: Royals take two of three
