Royals AFL November 13th Recap

On the final day of the regular season of the Arizona Fall League, Peoria beat Surprise, 5-2 to clinch the West Division title. The Javelinas will play Salt River (the East Division winners) on Saturday at 3:08pm ET on MLB Network.

If my calculations are right, KC Royals prospect Miguel Almonte will get the start for Peoria.

Blue Rocks third baseman Hunter Dozier at the plate on April 13, 2014 (Jen Nevius).

Peoria was clinging to a 3-2 lead going into the top of the ninth when Hunter Dozier led off with a single. The next batter, Justin O’Conner of TB, homered for a three-run cushion.

Raul Mondesi was once again in the leadoff spot and went 1-for-4 with a strikeout. He committed his sixth error of the AFL season, his second in two games. The error came in the fifth to load the bases, but Mondesi was bailed out by a double play ground out that followed (5-5-2).

Dozier went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two strikeouts. That gives him seven hits this week (in four games) and 11 hits in his last six games. Dozier has now played seven straight games for Peoria.

Bubba Starling did not strike out! However, he did go 0-for-4.

All three Royals relievers saw action.

Lefty Daniel Stumpf started the 6th inning by walking the first batter he faced. After a single, Stumpf induced a double play grounder and was done for the day. In came right-hander Ali Williams, who stranded both runners by getting a strikeout (after a walk).

Williams would throw 1.1 scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts. Lefty Sam Selman entered in the 8th inning with two outs and a runner on third base. He allowed an RBI single, before inducing a ground out to end the inning. Selman threw just four pitches.
