Peoria started the third week in the Arizona Fall League with another loss, this time losing to Salt River by a 4-2 score.

Former number one pick Mark Appel of Houston earned his first win for the Rafters, as he threw five shutout innings. The Rafters scored two runs in the first and never looked back. Only one of their three runs off Javelinas starter Jamie Schultz (Tampa Bay) were earned (Peoria committed three errors).

Bubba Starling returned to the Javelinas lineup as the DH (he last played on October 13th). He went 0-for-3 with a strikeout. Hunter Dozier was dropped in the lineup to fifth, but went 0-for-4 with a strikeout.

Lefty Sam Selman pitched the final two innings for the Javelinas. He allowed one run on two hits. He struck out one and threw 15 of his 23 pitches for strikes. Selman allowed a leadoff double in the eighth, which came around to score on Brandon Drury‘s one out single.

* A shoulder injury that cost Kyle Zimmer most of the 2014 regular season has now ended his AFL season. After being pulled by Peoria (and NW Arkansas) manager Vance Wilson from his start on Saturday after just one inning because he looked tight, Zimmer has been shut down and replaced on the Javelinas roster by what MiLB.com calls Brian Stumpf from the Royals. I am assuming they mean Daniel Stumpf, who pitched this season with Wilmington as a starter at the beginning and as a reliever at the end of the season.
