Week 2 in the Arizona Fall League has begun and KC Royals prospect Kyle Zimmer put on a show on Monday night for Peoria.

Kyle Zimmer pitching for Wilmington in 2013 (Jen Nevius).

Zimmer allowed just two hits and a walk over five scoreless innings. He struck out 11. Unfortunately, he did not get the win because Glendale scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game. The game went to extra innings and ended in a 2-2 tie after 11 innings.

Though he threw a ton of pitches in the first (20), Zimmer struck out two. After only striking out one in the second, he struck out the side in the 3rd inning (around a double). Zimmer struck out the side again in the fourth, before striking out two in his final inning. After a leadoff single in the fifth, the inning ended on a strike em out, throw em out double play.

The Javelinas gave Zimmer a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on Hunter Dozier‘s two-run home run. It was Dozier’s first AFL homer. He went 1-for-3 with two walks, a run scored, and two RBIs.

Bubba Starling went 0-for-5 with three strikeouts. He made the final out in the top of the 11th. Those strikeouts are really starting to pile up (ten in four games).

*Former Royal Patrick Leonard was back in the lineup after being hit by a pitch on October 9th. He went 2-for-4 with two strikeouts.
