The Kansas City Royals did themselves and their city proud on Tuesday night with an impressive 12-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix. Salvador Perez and Billy Butler both hit 3-run homers, Nori Aoki – yes, that Nori Aoki — hit a grand slam, and Danny Duffy pitched five innings of one-run baseball.
I could get used to this.
The Royals made the most out of fifteen hits against a weak D-back staff, whose team ERA of 4.25 ranks 14th out of 15 NL staffs, while the stingy KC hurlers held the D-backs to just five hits on the night.
The Royals are on a roll. Their record now stands at 58-53 on the season. They have two more games in Arizona before heading home to face the San Francisco Giants. With the victory, the Royals now find themselves a half game out of the Wild Card, closing in on a slumping Toronto Blue Jays squad.
Pennant fever. Oh yeah. All right.
