@Alan_Barrington I'm glad you used the phrase "man among boys" because I remember Sal's debut game more than about any other rookie's debut from last year. He looked like a guy who'd been catching at that level for years. He almost pulled off the "pickoff cycle" if he'd have nailed Kotchman. He even drove in a run.

Fans are going to love him. Look at the adoration of guys like Jorge Posada, Ivan Rodriguez and Yadier Molina. Yeah, those are all productive players at the plate historically, but for many fans, I'd guess they're in the top 3 of their respective fanbase's "favorite players" list. Sal can be there too.

I didn't address this in the writeup but have on the podcast, but looking at the narrow field (at least more narrow than say, first base) and that the All Star Game is in KC, if Sal has a good first half, he might have a strong shot at the AL roster. At the start of 2011, if you'd hear the question "which regular will be an all star first?" you'd think Hosmer, right? He's got to get around Fielder, Pujols, Teixiera and Adrian Gonzalez at that position among others...

So yeah. Very much on Team Sal here.

I had an opportunity to watch Perez in Arkansas last year and he was a man among boys. His defensive skills are as good as I've witnessed from any seasoned major league catcher and I don't think his offensive production will regress as much as many others are predicting. I could not be happier with the prospect of watching Salvador Perez behind the plate at Kauffman for years to come.
