@michael.allen.engel @mmeade17 I think that is my subconscious "optimism meter":) Getting pumped about the season, really looking forward to the progression of Odorizzi and the other young arms. From what I hear on Dave Eiland, I expect our prospects to take a step up in an organization starting to abandon the cookie-cutter.

@michael.allen.engel @mmeade17 True, so save the money for when one FA pitcher does put us over the top. That's been GMDM and Yost's position, don't waste money for 85 wins, spend it for the guy who takes you to 95 wins, if you need him. Of course, that guy may only cost us half a million if it's Duffy/Monty/JaKKKKe/Crow/Dwyer/Lamb. Worst case, Zack is available next year and we'll have a much better idea of what we need then.

@mmeade17 I saw Monty and Duffy both last year, Monty was a stud, Duffy's a little like NASCAR, watch the speed and the curves and wait for the crash:)

@mmeade17 shoot, I've probably written at least one and maybe two things about how I want Oswalt for the same reason...but my mind tells me that it's not likely that any one pitcher puts the Royals over the top

I don't have a problem with staying pat. It's safe and smart. The Royals are in a position to do so comfortably and wait to see if Montgomery, Lamb, and Odorizzi make significant progress. At the same time, the instant gratification portion of my brain would have loved to see Oswalt pitching in KC. Jackson? Not so much. But seeing Oswalt come in and maybe, just maybe, pitch well and give them a chance to compete would have been cool. That's not to say he would have put them over the top or anything, nor is it to say they can't compete without him. But seeing him pitch in Kauffman would have been pretty cool. I understand the strategy is sound, but I can't deny that a part of me wanted Oswalt really bad.

I think GMDM played it right, Oswalt is old and injured, Jackson is a #1 starter but not a dominant ace who could ring up 7 or 8 WAR and swing a race. I'm good with Duffy showing what he's learned and Monty coming up when Sanchez is traded. Chen is consistent and a mentor for the young guys, so was a reasonable signing.
