Thinking about strikeouts and starting rotations makes me think of the 2003 Chicago Cubs, who had Kerry Wood in his prime, Mark Prior in his very short lived prime, and Carlos Zambrano pre complete break from reality. That team made it all the way to the NLCS and should have won it if it had not been for a back breaking error by Alex Gonzalez (I don't blame Bartman; I blame the guys on the field who messed up). Together, those three struck everyone out and helped push them through the playoffs. That's the real difference. If a team has the dominant strikeout-type pitchers, they have a chance in the post season, but they need a few of them. Right now, the Royals don't have anyone I would trust to dominate a game in October.
