@KCLoyal You may be right, but I see $90 million for Darvish as diverted money, better to save it for the time of real need. If it looks like our stars will be too expensive, then we trade them and reload. That's why we have 3B Cheslor Cuthbert working through the system, and Elier Hernandez and Bubba Starling, as well as the constant acquisition of every hot arm we can get. Tampa Bay has provided a blueprint for converting expensive stars into a continuously productive farm system and I think GMDM is good with that.

@jim fetterolf Not sure I agree with that. If the Royals in the unlikelihood, signed Yu Darvish, his contract would be up or just about up by the time the Royals needed to look at extending any players.

Moustakas and Hosmer(or any Boras Client) won't be singing a long term before they are FA's. That's not how Boras works.

Not that I think they would win the posting, but they could afford it without hindering their ability to sign their young guns.

All you have to do is watch Darvish pitch to see the difference between he and Dice K. Its night and day. I would say there are only a handful of MLB pitchers that are as good. He is bigger, younger, with much better stuff, better stats and hasn't been overworked like Dice was. Yu is worth the risk. He would dominate at Kauffman stadium.

I'ld rather save the $90 million for contract extensions for our own proven players. We have enough talent in the pipeline to grow our own aces and will have the money to keep at least some of them.

I agree that I'd rather see them do something with that money then merely holding onto it.

Dice-K might not be worth "ace" money, but he hasn't been all bad for the Red Sox. That was a lot of money to pay for what they got out of him in 2011 and 2009. But 2007, 2008, and 2010, were at least complete years.

Yu Darvish is still very young, and does not have the wear and tear Dice-K had before coming over. It probably is more than the Royals "should' spend, but not by a lot. They definitely have the money to do it. And I would rather they wast 80 mil on Darvish, than just pocket it. It's not like the "savings' from one year goes into the budget for the next year.
