Agree on fangraphs Fld: Hosmer is a very good 1B, in spite of occasional rookie mistakes forcing throws or trying to make a play before he actually catches the ball, and fangraphs isn't able to see beyond catches, assists, and errors and apparently is unable to adjust range for the number of baserunners Hoz has to hold.

Saw a newer metric awhile ball called Scoops that gave Hosmer much love and explained why the rest of the infield likes having him at first; his length, agility, soft hands, and commitment to saving every bouncer or airmail that comes screaming at him at 96 mph from Esky or wormburning from Getzie as he's being bulldozed by the lead runner. Off the top of my head, he's saved a dozen errors at least among Moose, Escobar, Getz, and Giavotella, plus he's the guy with the game consciousness to be at the bag so Frenchy can make the 9-3 play. I'ld rate his defense more like a +4, which gets his fWAR up to 2.5. I'ld also give him another couple of tenths on Bsr, as he has good speed and consciousness on the basepaths. Overall he's basically a Frenchy clone at the moment as a rook, which is a very good thing as far as value, and I think he has tremendous upside.
