Absolutely with you that he should never been removed from the lineup. I just find it amusing that certain players on the roster get overvalued for the things they do well (Getz, Escobar, Francoeur) while otherwise get undervalued disproportionately for the things they don't (Gordon, Butler). Everything always seems so emotional, and doesn't follow a consistent, unattached line of thinking.

That being said, even though I never wanted to trade Greinke, at the very least we know we have a tremendous defensive player in Escobar, and someone that should only get better offensively.

Talking about his offense is a nice problem to have considering how good he is with the glove, and the awfulness we've had to endure at that position the last few years.

Kevin,
I agree with your take on this. While you can make the argument that Acides is the best defensive SS in MLB right now (14.4 UZR/150 ranks 2nd to Tulo, 5.8 RngR ranks 2nd to Andrus) there is no way he is the best all-around or offensive SS in the game - regardless of the time frame you use to evaluate.

That said on the heels of TPJ and Yunie I'll take Escobar hitting 0.200 with the defense he brings to the table any day of the week. In my book he should never be pulled from the lineup unless he's hurt.

AE has shown the ability to hit in the minors so his recent hot stretch may just be a statistical "correction." That aside even if he takes the Ozzie Smith track with the bat I'll be a VERY happy Royals fan.

Yunie FWIW -11.4 UZR/150 this season with a 0.228/.251/.328 slash line.
