In an absolutely perfect world, I WOULD LOVE to see Moustakas command second base. I think he is built better for second base. He needs to amp up his quickness a bit, but could easily become an early day Knoblauch if you will.

If that were the case, then we would have Hosmer at first, Moose at second, Escobar at short, and have Betemit fill in at third until we develop a real third baseman or pull off a nice trade for one.

This would create an ideal situation defensively, at the same time utilizing the offense in an efficient manner.

How does Betemit’s great season effect the inevitable Moose call-up? You said it, Betemit has been the teams MVP (although Hosmer is closing fast). At the start of the season I would have guessed it would have been Betemit shipped out to make room for Moose. It would be hard to justify that now with his hot start. Where would Wilson play if Mike was brought up. I don’t see Moose being brought up to ride the pine and play every third day or whatever. Just curious.

Pena is certainly not seizing a gift wrapped opportunity, but Getz plays a decent 2B, has a usable OBP, does the little things, and is outhitting Aviles. I don’t think either is an everyday 2B, but Giavotella isn’t hitting righties, Bianchi isn’t hitting anyone, Colon is struggling, and Rey Navarro is at Wilmington. 2B will be a long term problem. Escobar isn’t hitting much but probably averages saving one hit per game, so is solidly in place and will stay there as he learns to hit a little more and take a walk.

We’re over .500 without the Soria meltdowns and the team is good enough to get back there.
