Guest Post: @fakenedyost meets … Ned Yost
(Last night was Blog Your Way to the K at Kauffman Stadium. Chris Kamler goes by the Twitter handle of @fakenedyost and has some hilarious – and sometimes NSFW – tweets during Royals games. He joined me and others at the event last night and I’ve offered to run his writeup of the experience. What follows is all his. My account is coming later tonight.) Blog Your Way To The K By @FakeNedYost (A.K.A. Chris Kamler) Clearly, there had been a mistake made. Last week, I got a call from the Kansas City Royals requesting my presence (actually, my faux [...]
2011, All in or Fold
Reality has set in. The so-called honeymoon phase has passed and wins don’t come as easy for the Royals as they used to. There is really no need to bash Mazzaro anymore than we have. It’s no surprise what happened. I think as Royals followers we can all submit to the fact that we will face at least ONE embarrassing moment throughout the season. On May 16th we had that moment. This is a reality we all knew would come sooner or later. We knew this team wasn’t as good as the record in late April showed. As writers, fans, [...]
Promotion Times
With the early promotions of Eric Hosmer and now Danny Duffy and Everett Teaford, there has been some debate amongst Royals fans about the timing of said promotions. Why call these guys up so early when it could cost big Super Two money down the road? Well, I want to talk about this a bit. A lot of other folks have mentioned it on Twitter or radio shows or wherever, but it bears repeating because, well, it’s a major point of disagreement right now. To start, I’ll come clean: I like the way the Royals are handling things. And I’ll [...]
Ouch
The first thing I suggest is that we acknowledge what happened. The Indians beat our Royals. It’s done and we can all move on because the ordeal is over. 19-1 losses don’t happen often; heck, 10-1 losses don’t happen often. This wasn’t so much a game as a trial. A test. How does a team come back from something like that? Let’s accentuate the positive:
When the Hope of Prospects Becomes a Liability
It was a few years ago while coaching baseball and mowing the outfield grass that I used to spend my mornings listening to national sports-talk radio. Think what you want of Colin Cowherd but at least the guy makes for entertaining listening while you’re trying to pass a couple hours as quickly as possible. The Anaheim, Los Angeles, Orange County, California Angels at the time had what was regarded as one of the best farm systems in baseball, and a large number of their minor league players were the envy of the rest of the league. Erick Aybar, Brandon Wood, [...]
Live Royals Discussion at 3 p.m. Today
Well the intent was to cover the Sunday afternoon game between Detroit and Kansas City as a post-game show on The Royalman Report, but Mother Nature decided against that. Regardless, Troy “Royalman” Olsen and myself will be live at 3:00 p.m. central time this afternoon to discuss the Royals on the Royalman Report. (We’ll be starting a bit late, but before 3:20 p.m. after some studio issues that are now corrected.) If you wish to ask a question, add a comment, or just make a point, you can mention @RoyalmanReport on Twitter or call us at 816-394-9578. If you need [...]
JK
So it may be a little bit early to discuss this, but the play that Treanor made on Austin Jackson at the plate on Friday got me thinking a little bit. If you didn’t catch it, well…you missed out. I can recap though. Jackson was at second base in the bottom of the third when Brennan Boesch hit a single to right. Jackson headed for home. Franceour relayed to Hosmer who turned and tried to make a play at the plate. By the time Treanor turned to apply the tag, Jackson was already sliding past with his hand seeming to swipe [...]
Lorenzo Cain Hits For Cycle For Omaha
Watching the big league team, we get to see Alcides Escobar and Jeremy Jeffress with regularity. Jake Odorizzi is destroying High A lineups – and was the Princes of Kauffman Pitcher of the Week for the second week in a row. We haven’t heard much about Lorenzo Cain. That will probably change after going 4-5 tonight in hitting for the cycle and driving in seven.
Royals Bats Stay Quiet
The day after Justin Verlander limited them to two hits over eight innings, the Royals unleashed the lineup that put up a season-high 16 hits against the Yankees. It didn’t change their fortunes. Bolstered by solid defense, Brad Penny shut down the Royals and Jose Valverde sealed the win and handed the Royals their first shutout of 2011. Jeff Francis gave up three runs on five hits in the first inning, but recovered and pitched a complete game, giving up only two more hits the rest of the game. It doesn’t matter if your team doesn’t score, however.
Feeling a Draft – Part II
2011 First Round Draft Order 1. Pittsburgh Pirates 2. Seattle Mariners 3. Arizona Diamondbacks 4. Baltimore Orioles 5. Kansas City Royals As we continue our look at the upcoming Major League Baseball Amateur Draft that begins on June 6th, I want to take a look at what would be the best story for the Royals. Royals Fall to Third Place
At the start of the season, a third place rank in the AL Central would seem like a miracle. After a (mostly) solid six weeks to start the season, the Royals loss to the Tigers on Friday put them half a game behind Detroit. It’s not entirely their fault, though. Just ask the Blue Jays. Justin Verlander is unhittable right now.
Feeling a Draft
Fellow writer Ryan Wood and myself are gonna bring something to Kings of Kauffman that you all will hopefully find interesting. As the Major League Baseball Amatuer Draft is coming up on June 6th we thought it would be both fun and entertaining to outline draft prospects the Royals could select at #5 (which is a good spot because there is a lot of talent in this years draft) and compare them to a current prospect or rookie that is currently in the Royals system. The idea is to profile where they fit in the organization and how they will most [...]
