For me, the reason I would take Blanco is because of his ability as a pinch runner. I do not think Maier is slow, but Blanco seems to be able to steal bases at a high rate, and I think that would allow us to win maybe 3-4 more games because of it.

I remember a few games where Willie Bloomquist was used in this fashion and it helped us a lot in those games. The advantage with Willie, was that he could play anywhere, although I think Blanco is definitely the better base stealer.

I don&#039;t think your choice is wrong, I just think I value the one skill over the other (hitting lefties - not a bad skill either!) for a backup outfielder.

Good article though, it is hard to argue against whatever Yost decides, as he will know better how he intends to use them.</description>
