The Return of the Kila Monster

No, that’s not a title from a 1950’s monster movie.  The much-deserved promotion of Kila Ka’aihue has come to pass, as he was recalled from Omaha today after hitting .319/.463/.598/1.061 for Omaha with 24 homers.  .  This is his second trip to Kansas City, having first been called up in May (and only getting four at bats for the whole stint).

Unfortunately, he’s up because Robinson Tejeda was placed on the disabled list with a right biceps tendon strain.

With the recent moves of veterans Scott Podsednik, Rick Ankiel and Kyle Farnsworth, the youth movement in KC is picking up.  Ka’aihue figures into that plan, but the Royals have been oddly reluctant to give him the opportunity.  With a keen batting eye and power from the left side of the plate, Ka’aihue’s waited mostly for the departure of Jose Guillen.  Perhaps a post-deadline trade involving waivers will give him his chance.
