For those of you who can’t wait to see Mike Moustakas and Eric Hosmer in the same lineup (like me), you’ll get your chance on July 11, as both have been named to Team USA’s roster for the All-Star Futures Game.

Moustakas, the third overall selection in he 2007 draft, and Hosmer, second overall in 2008, have been among the top hitters in all of the minor leagues to this point.  Moustakas is contending for the Texas League triple crown, currently leading in batting average (.355), home runs (17) and RBI (63).  Those numbers are all despite an oblique strain kept him on the disabled list for the first 20 days of the season.

Hosmer currently leads the Carolina league with a .356 batting average, and stands sixth in the league in RBI with 42.  He’ll be playing tonight in the California/Carolina League All-Star game, where he’s slated to start.  Moustakas is starting for the Texas League All-Stars in their All-Star game on June 30.

Last year, the Royals had one player represent them in the Futures game, as Danny Duffy pitched for Team USA.  The recognition is especially nice for Moustakas and Hosmer as well as Royals fans considering both players struggled for most of 2009, especially Hosmer, who battled injuries and vision problems all season long.  Both players could see promotions to the next minor league level before the year is out, as they’ve both certainly deserved a move to the next level.
