OMD,
Given equal resources I have no doubt that Allard Baird would have had more success in the draft and in free agency and that this team would be in a much better place. Unfortunately that was not to be. I hope that the next guy gets to operate under the same set of rules as Dayton. If David and Dan Glass revert to their mode of operations when Baird was GM we are doubly screwed as Royals fans.

Like you I have been holding out hope, but that looks like a foolish course of action on my part these days. I'm going to give him till opening day but all the signs point toward the need to close the GMDM chapter of Royals history sooner rather than later.

I think Devon summed it up very well in his comment.

I wasn't on the Dayton Moore needs to be fired immediately camp until now. I kept foolishly holding out hope that he would make a good signing, net a killer yield in a trade, anything.

I am now convinced that it is not going to happen. We're going on two solid years of awful acquisitions, and it only seems to be getting bleaker.

Moreover, the one thing that he has done does not seem to be anything that any other GM couldn't have done given the resources. Let us remember that the Royals spent more than any other team in MLB history on the draft in 2008. Do any of us really think that Allard Baird couldn't have rebuilt the farm system given that kind of budget? Baird, after all, is the man responsible for bringing in Butler, Gordon, and Greinke.
