Crown Gems: AL Central News and Other Notes
The non-tender news is coming in at a fairly good clip this evening. To prevent duplication, I’m going to wait until tomorrow to publish some thoughts on who was let go. Until then, however, there are a few AL Central items worth mentioning, and a few other random things as well.
Jason Kendall and the Hole That Remains
As obsessively as I have been following the catchers on the market, it should come as no surprise to anyone that I have some thoughts on the Royals signing 35 year old C-Jason Kendall to a 2-year contract. I have been trying to get my thoughts and feelings into order about this move since I heard the news and, sadly, I’m still not there. My conclusion is that if I don’t put some of these thoughts into a post, my brain very well could short circuit. This signing is an error in judgment and an error in talent evaluation that [...]
Baseball Side of FanSided (12/11)
To kick off the weekend, for the 3rd Friday in a row, it’s time to take a stroll around the MLB blogs of FanSided.
Rejoice! Mike Jacobs and John Bale Released
That folks is a beautiful headline and it’s not a misprint. Just before the onset of this morning’s Rule 5 draft the Kansas City Royals released Mike Jacobs and John Bale. I mentioned in my morning article that I was going to provide more thoughts on these two former Royals.
Royals Select LHP-Edgar Osuna in the Rule 5 Draft
LHP-Edgar Osuna is the newest member of the Kansas City Royals 40-man roster after the team selected him 4th overall in this morning’s Rule 5 draft. He was the only player the Royals selected this morning. They elected to not make any picks in the Triple-A or Double-A portions of the draft. The Royals cleared space on their 40-man by releasing John Bale and Mike Jacobs. I’ll have more on Bale and Jacobs later tonight, but this post is all about Edgar Osuna.
Eulogio De La Cruz Released by San Diego
RHP-Eulogio De La Cruz was released by the San Diego Padres this afternoon. This particular release, for fans of most teams, wouldn’t amount to so much as a blip on the radar. For the Royals, even blips can be worth investigating.
Crown Gems: AL Central Winter Meeting News
It’s just about noon on day number three of the Winter Meetings in Indianapolis. I have done my best to collect all the AL Central related news, rumor, and action from the last day and have included it below.

The First Noel – Arguelles Agrees to Deal
On Saturday night, very surprising news broke that the Royals had reached an agreement with 19 year old LHP-Noel Arguelles. The young Cuban reportedly agreed to a 5 year $7 million major league contract with the chance to increase that amount another $2 million by way of incentives.
Royals Caribbean Report (12/7)
Today the Winter Meetings kick off in Indianapolis and will run through Thursday. It’s expected that the Royals and Dayton Moore will be very active during this stretch. While we wait for some Winter Meeting news, I hope you will enjoy your regular Monday Royals Caribbean Report.
Bryan Bullington By The Books
The Royals signed RHP-Bryan Bullington to a minor league contract back on November 24th. On November 26th I went on record that it was a good move for the club to make. He is low cost, low risk, and very well could wind up making the 2010 Opening Day roster as a member of the KC bullpen.
