There are only 30 options to manage a MLB team and only a handful of those will be open in any given offseason. If we were to put it to a vote my assumption is that most fans would want Frank White named the next manager of the Royals. I don't know if he would be the best choice for the job, but I don't have any doubt he would take the position if it were offered to him. Going back to scottw's question about the book on Hillman when he was hired, the reaction was mixed. Trey had a lot of success in Japan, but he had never played or managed at the ML level. There was a large camp of people, myself included, who were't sold on Trey, but we gave Dayton Moore the benefit of the doubt in his selection. We were wrong, Dayton was wrong, I was wrong to blindly believe in DM's selection without thinking it through logically. This journey should be a cautionary tale for Chiefs fans and the Pioli love-fest that is underway. Whether or not Hillman was on the Yankees short list is immaterial. The mighty Yankees have had plenty of managerial busts over the years and I surmise that Girardi will be added to that pile when all is said and done.
